This incredibly textured and "carved" piece is made entirely of found objects. I discovered 2 halves of an old oil barrel washed up on the shores of the Ottawa River. I pulled them out, cleaned them up and envisioned a painting before my eyes. The background, substrate, is made up of two single planks from an 1800s log home in Statesville, Canada.
The title, wander far but never forget your roots, is inspired by my sons Instagram account description. The words are profound, the objects have new meaning, and the symbology and colors in this painting all point in the direction of foundations, roots, ancestry and of course your own personal history.
