Earth below. Wax and fire above. Two worlds, one canoe and it's entirely yours to keep.

Between Two Shores is unlike anything we've offered before. Over two unforgettable sessions, you'll hand-build a ceramic canoe and then paint it with fire leaving with a double-sided functional art piece that works as a planter, a key dish, a trinket bowl, or a showstopper on any surface. Day on one side. Night on the other. Ancient artforms, one extraordinary result.

This is the workshop people will still be talking about years from now.

Part 1 — Clay with Cheryl Caswell (Clayful Potters Studio) Using ancient slab and coil techniques, you'll build your canoe by hand, no wheel, no experience needed. You'll choose a glaze for the interior, fired watertight and ready for real use. The outside stays raw, waiting for the wax. The first workshop is at the Clayful Potters Studio, 4220 Upper Dwyer Hill Rd, Arnprior, ON K7S 3G7 on Tue Sept 15, 6:30-8:30pm OR Mon Nov 2, 6:30-8:30pm.

Part 2 — Encaustic at lovisART studio (2.5 weeks later) Pam Smith, A lovisART's expertly trained encaustic and mixed media instructor, guides you through painting the outside of your fired canoe using the ancient art of encaustic; beeswax, heat, and mixed media materials. One side becomes a lake scene by day, the other by night. You'll learn painting, fusing, shading, patina, and rice paper collage. Give yourself 3 to 3.5 hours,  there's a lot of magic to make.  The second workshop takes place at lovisART Studio, 56 Mill Street, Almonte, ON, K0A 1X0 on Sun. Sept 27, 12-3:30 OR Sun Nov 22, 12-3:30.

• Ceramic hand-building AND Encaustic Painting
• Safe heating and application of encaustic wax
• Day and night landscape painting in wax
• Shading, patina, and rice paper collage

The details:

• Location: Part 1 — Clayful Potters Studio (Choose Sept date or Nov date)            Part 2 — lovisART Studio, 56 Mill St., Almonte, Ontario (follow up with Sept date or Nov date).
• Duration: ~2 hours (clay) + 3 – 3.5 hours (encaustic), held ~2.5 weeks apart
• Class size: Intimate class of 6 (spots fill fast).
• Everything included: All materials for both sessions provided
• $249 + tax

No experience necessary. Just show up ready to make something you'll never want to give away.

Creativity Required: ✚✚✚ This one gives you real creative freedom. I'll teach you the technique and guide you through the process, but you'll make more of the decisions; colors, composition, imagery, and little additions, so everyone's piece will turn out beautifully different.

Workshop Policy: Refunds & Date Changes

We pour so much care into planning each workshop, from ordering materials to preparing your workspace, that our numbers are finalized well in advance. Because of this, all workshop sales are final: we're unable to offer refunds or switch registrations to a different date.

We know plans change! If you're no longer able to attend, your seat is fully transferable. Simply let us know what date you booked and who will be taking your spot, and we'll make sure they're all set for the day.
